If you requested an extension to file your 2023 taxes, you have until Oct. 15, 2024 to file without penalty. (Remember, there is no penalty for those who are due a refund from the IRS).
However, Texas residents affected by July 2024’s Hurricane Beryl may have until Feb. 3, 2025 for certain tax deadlines.

Consider Special Circumstances
If you needed to file an extension or were unable to pay your taxes due to circumstances (such as natural disasters or other financial burdens), you may be eligible for another extension.
For example, Texas-area businesses affected by Hurricane Beryl have been granted an extension for certain deadlines occurring after July 5, 2024. According to the official IRS statement:
The Feb. 3, 2025 filing deadline applies to:
- Businesses with an original or extended due date including, among others, calendar-year partnerships and S corporations whose 2023 extensions run out on Sept. 16, 2024, and calendar-year corporations whose 2023 extensions run out on Oct. 15, 2024.
The Feb. 3, 2025, deadline also applies to any payment normally due during this period, including the quarterly estimated tax payments due on Sept. 16, 2024, and Jan. 15, 2025, and the quarterly payroll and excise tax returns normally due on July 31, 2024, Oct. 31, 2024, and Jan. 31, 2025. Affected taxpayers with returns and payments with due dates postponed until Nov. 1, 2024, due to severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding in Texas (TX-2024-13) will also now have until Feb. 3, 2025, to file and/or pay.
